The Miami Dolphins reportedly are looking for a “highly skilled” No. 3 receiver to play alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in their offense.

It’s possible that Miami could look to draft a receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday night.

“The Dolphins want to add a highly-skilled No. 3 receiver, whether it’s at No. 21 or No. 55 or whether it’s eventually coming to terms with a pedigreed veteran (Odell Beckham Jr., Tyler Boyd, perhaps D.J. Chark),” the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson wrote. “But Miami has been reluctant to pay much for a No. 3 receiver, leading to an impasse with Beckham.”

Miami made an offer to Beckham earlier this offseason, but the two sides have not come to terms on a deal.

In the 2023 regular season, Beckham was targeted 64 times, making 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns for the Baltimore Ravens. In his NFL career, Beckham has five seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards and three seasons with double-digit touchdown receptions. He also won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.

As for the draft, there is a chance Miami could make a move for a weapon for Tua Tagovailoa, but it is likely too far back in the first round to add one of the top receivers like Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers.

The Dolphins have been linked to speedy receiver Xavier Worthy.

Miami has six picks in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, including four among the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds. Miami’s first draft selection will come at pick No. 21 in the first round, where it could look to add a receiver to bolster the offense.

  • Round 1, Pick 21
  • Round 2, Pick 55
  • Round 5, Pick 158
  • Round 6, Pick 184 (from Chicago Bears)
  • Round 6, Pick 198
  • Round 7, Pick 241

It makes sense that the Dolphins want to make their offense more dynamic, especially after they scored just seven points in their playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs this past season.

Hill is one of the best receivers in the game, as he caught 119 passes for an NFL-best 1,799 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns in the 2023 campaign. However, defenses might be able to key in on him if Miami doesn’t have other weapons.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Dolphins’ draft strategy over the next few days involves taking a wideout or if the team dips back into the free-agent pool to fill the position.
