Chop Robinson, formerly of the Penn State Nittany Lions, has expressed his desire to don the No. 44 jersey as he embarks on his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins. “Of course 44, but I’m not sure who has it or even if it’s available right now,” Robinson shared with the media, according to a report by Chris Perkins of the Sun Sentinel.
However, the No. 44 is currently worn by Blake Ferguson, the Dolphins’ long snapper, who has had the number since being drafted by the team in 2020. Despite this, Ferguson appears to be supportive of Robinson joining the team, as seen in a tweet celebrating Robinson’s selection in the draft: “Let’s go Chop!!”
As of now, Ferguson has not commented on whether he would be willing to pass on the number 44 to Robinson. Robinson, for his part, seems unfazed by the numeral predicament. During his collegiate and high school career, he has worn various numbers, including No. 4 at Maryland and Nos. 42 and 44 in his high school days.
With Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou currently in possession of No. 4, Robinson might consider returning to No. 42—a number he has experience with and that is presently not assigned to anyone on the team.
This situation hints at Robinson’s flexible attitude towards his jersey number and suggests that there likely won’t be any contention over No. 44.
