The Miami Dolphins have offered their first contract offer to free agent Odell Beckham Jr. after a visit from the wide receiver on Thursday, head coach Mike McDaniel mentioned during the annual NFL coaches meeting.

Nothing has been made official yet, but sources have said that OBJ is looking for a deal worth at least $10-$15M per year. The 31-year-old signed a one-year deal worth $15M with the Baltimore Ravens last season, and Spotrac has estimated that the Miami Dolphins could give OBJ a one-year, $11.9M deal.

“Things went great with him,” McDaniel told reporters on Monday. “We did make him an offer and business takes time, especially with players such as Odell, who’s had a phenomenal career, still has really good football in front of him and has options. So, I think those conversations will be ongoing. We’ll see where they go.”

The wide receiver free agent made a visit to Miami on Thursday, as mentioned, where team sources said the meeting went “well” and were pleased with how the meeting went, and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald noted that Beckham and the Dolphins just needed to “agree on a price.”

Jackson also mentioned that the Dolphins, if they were to sign OBJ, would try and sign him for cheap:

“The question is whether they can see eye to eye on what he should be paid. The sides have discussed financial terms but no agreement had been reached as of late Thursday afternoon.
“Another prominent free agent receiver who spoke with the Dolphins said he was left with the impression that Miami doesn’t want to spend a lot at that position, even though one important person in the Dolphins hierarchy would like to add a highly skilled No. 3 receiver and loves Beckham.”

If OBJ were to join the team, it’s likely that we would see him in a No. 3 slot following the departure of Cedrick Wilson Jr, who recently signed with the New Orleans Saints on a one-year deal. The Miami Dolphins also recently re-signed Braxton Berrios, who will probably play behind OBJ in a No. 4 slot.
