The Lakers just made the UNTHINKABLE move—sending LeBron, Bronny, and Knecht to the Heat in a deal that changes everything!

August 3, 2025

Now that the Los Angeles Lakers finished their 2023-24 season with another disappointing loss to the Denver Nuggets, they have turned their attention to the offseason. The main priority for the Lakers is of course keeping LeBron James on the team and in good spirits. The 39-year-old superstar has a player option for next season and hasn’t made a decision on whether he wants to stay in Los Angeles long-term.

To convince James, the Lakers are reportedly willing to jump through hoops in the offseason. This includes drafting his son Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Lakers Are Open to Drafting Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft

According to the reporting by Shams Charania, Jovan Buha, and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Lakers are “very open” to the prospect of pairing the first father-son duo in NBA history.

James has long expressed his desire to play with his son Bronny, who is coming off his freshman season at USC. There was widespread expectation that teams who would want to lure LeBron in free agency would do so by drafting Bronny first.

Bronny’s disappointing season complicates things. The 6’4 shooting guard struggled to make shots, finishing his year at USC averaging 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting from the field in 19.4 minutes per game.

That doesn’t scream a surefire NBA prospect, does it?

However, the Lakers are known to take care of their superstars. That is how they have been able to lure them there in the first place.

If the price of keeping LeBron James around is using a draft pick to select his son, so be it. You won’t hear Lakers fans complaining about that one bit.
