Taulia Tagovailoa, the brother of Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins, was unable to secure a spot with the Seattle Seahawks after participating in their rookie minicamp. Yet, the former Maryland quarterback isn’t out of opportunities yet as he’s been given a chance to prove himself at the Arizona Cardinals’ camp, according to NFL Media.

Having celebrated his 24th birthday in February, Tagovailoa was left undrafted in April even after a successful stint at Maryland, where he broke several passing records and was named to the All-Big Ten team twice. His attempt to gain a sixth year of eligibility for college football was denied by the NCAA, pushing him towards the start of his professional career with a tryout for the Seahawks.

However, Seattle decided not to offer him a contract immediately after his tryout, preferring to proceed into their spring workouts with Geno Smith and their newly acquired backup, Sam Howell. The Cardinals, on the other hand, will give Tagovailoa a look as they head into their own preparations with Kyler Murray, recently signed backup Desmond Ridder, and their 2023 fifth-round selection, Clayton Tune, as their quarterbacks.

For Tagovailoa, the rookie camp invitation to the Cardinals does not guarantee a contract, but it does provide another platform to showcase his capabilities. His participation underscores a common practice where players, even those with notable credentials like former Pro Bowl receiver Jarvis Landy—who secured a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars—seek opportunities through minicamp invitations.
