Several former Miami Dolphins are on the journey to prove their worth with new teams, with linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel and linebacker Baker notably embarking on new chapters after their final season in Miami was marred by injuries.

Andrew Van Ginkel, now with the Minnesota Vikings, has been unable to participate in the team’s offseason on-field activities as he recuperates from a foot injury sustained in the final game of the 2023 season against the Buffalo Bills—a game that concluded his five-year stint with the Dolphins on a high note with a personal best of six sacks. Despite his physical limitations, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell praised Van Ginkel and tight end T.J.

Hockenson for their off-field contributions and assured updates on their progress. Van Ginkel’s move was solidified with a two-year contract potentially worth $20 million, highlighting the Vikings’ investment in his recovery and future impact on the field.

His reunion with Brian Flores, the Vikings’ defensive coordinator and Van Ginkel’s first head coach at Miami, underscores a continued belief in his talent.

Baker, the other mention, finds himself in a similarly challenging situation with the Seattle Seahawks after also ending his 2023 season with an injury during the same game. Now facing rehabilitation for a wrist injury alongside other concerns, new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald emphasized the importance of alternative training methods to ensure Baker remains mentally prepared. Baker’s transition to the Seahawks followed his release from Miami, illustrating a fresh start for the former Dolphin who seeks to overcome recent setbacks and return to form.

As Miami navigates its cap situation, the departures of high-profile players like Van Ginkel and Baker were not isolated incidents. Cornerback Xavien Howard and defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah were also released, spotlighting the team’s efforts to manage financial constraints while aiming for competitiveness in the league.

Howard, in particular, commands attention as the offseason draws to a close, with his release generating significant cap space for Miami and stirring speculation about his next team. With numerous playoff contenders receiving cap relief and possibly in the market for Howard’s services, his resolution remains a focal point of intrigue.

This wave of transitions for former Dolphins players underscores the NFL’s ever-evolving nature, where careers can be revitalized with new opportunities despite past injuries or cap-related maneuvers. As these athletes look ahead to their future contributions, their journeys reflect the complexities and potential of life in professional sports.
