Despite an impressive offensive performance in the 2023 season, the Miami Dolphins’ stats still fell short of the groundbreaking numbers produced under the legendary duo of quarterback Dan Marino and coach Don Shula in 1984. However, the Dolphins still managed to rewrite parts of their record book, with standout performances adding new records to the franchise’s history.

In an explosive season, Tyreek Hill set a new Dolphins record with 1,799 receiving yards, surpassing his own record from the previous year. Raheem Mostert also impressed, setting a record with 18 rushing touchdowns, while the team as a whole averaged a record 5.1 yards per rushing attempt and accumulated a total of 56 sacks.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, several records might be challenged:

Kicker Jason Sanders, who previously tied the franchise scoring record in 2020 with 144 points, could potentially break this record if the Dolphins’ offensive drives end more frequently in field goal attempts. Last season, Sanders scored 130 points, depicting a shift in his field goal to extra point ratio from his record-tying season.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has showcased his capabilities over the past two seasons with passer ratings above 100. His next target could be Marino’s 1984 season passer rating of 108.9. While Marino’s record of 5,084 passing yards and 48 touchdowns in a season seem out of reach, a decline in interceptions could lead Tagovailoa to a record-breaking passer rating.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill has already demonstrated his capacity to set records and could be on track to surpass Irving Fryar’s record of four consecutive 100-yard games. Hill came close in 2023 but was hampered by an injury early in a pivotal game.

On the defensive side, rookie Chop Robinson is positioned to challenge the rookie sack record set by Jaelan Phillips, especially given the injuries to veteran pass rushers, creating more opportunities for Robinson.

Lastly, punter Jake Bailey aims to break the franchise’s record for highest net punting average. His 2023 performance put him within range, and with improved special teams coverage, he could surpass Brandon Fields’ 2013 record.

As the 2024 season approaches, these Dolphins players are on the brink of making franchise history, a testament to the team’s continual evolution and pursuit of excellence.
