Derrick Henry is in the midst of an MVP-caliber season. Week after week the behemoth back impresses fans, teammates, and opposing franchises with his blend of speed, power, and elusiveness.
Coming into the Ravens’ Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Henry led the league in rushing with 704 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s been on a tear this season, and yesterday’s MNF performance only added to his already special season.
In fact, he’s been so good this year that opposing NFL general managers have immediately regretted not taking a longer look at him during the free agency period. And it makes sense. Many thought Henry was washed up and had run out of gas in Tennessee.
During the game, one NFL GM couldn’t help but spill the beans on a big offseason regret.
Well, here comes the revenge tour. Against the Bucs, Henry added to his absurd rushing totals. He added 169 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
His most memorable run came late in the third quarter while the Ravens were up 27-10. The drive started from the Ravens’ eight-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Henry took the handoff from Jackson and took it 81 yards to the Tampa Bay 11-yard line in a matter of seconds.
It was a massive energy-shifter, and it essentially acted as the proverbial nail in the coffin for the Bucs. Baltimore capitalized off the dynamic run with a touchdown pass to Mark Andrews four plays later to go up 34-10.
However, convince yourself Henry is one-dimensional at your own peril.
To make matters worse for the Bucs, Derrick Henry found the end zone again – this time as a receiver, scoring his second touchdown of the night through the air.
Henry’s been the perfect addition to this Ravens offense.
