Through eight games played, Boise State University star running back Ashton Jeanty has looked like arguably the best player at his position in the nation this season. He has already accumulated 1,525 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns while averaging an unbelievable 190.6 rushing yards per game in his third season of college football.

Interestingly for fans of the Miami Dolphins, Bleacher Report’s latest 2025 NFL mock draft has him landing with the Dolphins at the No. 10 overall pick.

While that would be a thrilling addition, Miami’s rushing numbers this season suggest that the Dolphins aren’t exactly in dire need of more talented rushers. After all, the Dolphins are averaging 131.7 rushing yards per contest so far in the 2024 regular season, which ranks as the ninth-most of any team in the league.

Miami also employs a very talented young running back, De’Von Achane. Achane is in just his second season in the NFL, yet he has already staked his claim as an effective rusher and receiver. This season, he has totaled 357 rushing yards and 244 receiving yards in seven games played and six starts for Miami.

Outside of Achane, the Dolphins have a rookie running back who has shown plenty of promise when his number’s been called in Jaylen Wright. Wright — who was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft — ran for 86 yards in Miami’s win over the lowly New England Patriots early last month on Oct. 6.

Not to mention, the Dolphins have a very solid veteran back in Raheem Mostert, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season.

It’s also important to note that in order for Miami to have the No. 10 overall selection in the next draft (without making a trade), the Dolphins would have to miss the playoffs, and that’s probably a scenario they would like to avoid.

Miami’s 2-5 record doesn’t scream that the team is a playoff contender, but quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has played in only three of the Dolphins’ seven games. Miami has proven that it can enjoy great success in the regular season with a healthy Tagovailoa leading the offense, considering it finished with an impressive 11-6 record a season ago.

So, while Jeanty would be a flashy pick for the Dolphins, there are a few reasons to be skeptical of the idea.
