After seven seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans, Anthony Davis joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019. With the Lakers, he teamed up with one of the best lethal duos alongside LeBron James. The duo led the Lakers to one NBA title.
Meanwhile, Davis’ career took a major turn when he was unexpectedly traded from the Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster deal involving Luka Doncic.
Since joining the Mavericks, however, Davis has largely remained out of the spotlight, especially after suffering an early injury. Now, a cryptic Instagram story from the All-Star big man is sparking speculation about his mental and emotional state. On Wednesday, Davis posted a quote on his Instagram story.
“A man who doesn’t care anymore was once a man who cared too much,” he wrote.
It’s not the first time an athlete has turned to social media to express what can’t be said in interviews. But for Davis the timing of this message felt particularly significant.
Davis’ debut with the Mavericks was quickly overshadowed by injury. A left adductor strain sidelined him for most of the season. Meanwhile, all eyes have been on Doncic’s transition to Los Angeles. It left Davis largely in the background.

Though Davis has remained professional and embraced life in Dallas, fans can’t help but wonder if the emotional toll of the trade and injuries is starting to show. NBA fans reacted with a mix of sympathy and speculation.
“Idk what he’s goin thru but I feel him on this fr,” one fan wrote.
“Is it something off the court? I hope he’s all good,” another comment read.
“My dawg still mad af he got traded,” a fan guessed.
“Either it’s trouble with the ol’ lady or it’s him pissed about his injuries. I’ma go with wife issues. Hope the best for The Brow,” added another.
“He didn’t have to be in his feelings to state facts,” wrote one user.
“His injury is bad. This is him giving up,” another speculated.
Whether the cryptic post was about his body, his career, or something more personal is still unclear. But it’s certain that AD has been harboring something unpleasant in his mind.
