Miami — With key cornerbacks sidelined and the regular season approaching, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly considering a trade for veteran Chidobe Awuzie of the Baltimore Ravens.
Following the offseason trade of Jalen Ramsey for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, Miami’s cornerback room has been decimated by injuries. Kader Kohou is out for the year with a knee injury, and his backup Artie Burns was lost to a torn ACL just one week prior, leaving the unit dangerously thin.Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay suggests Awuzie—now a backup in Baltimore—could be a smart addition. The Ravens recently acquired corner Jaire Alexander, further deepening their depth. Kay writes: “Chidobe Awuzie could be available … the offer of an early Day 3 pick could lead the club to move on from him.”
Awuzie brings 77 career starts and fruitful experience defending on the perimeter—a key need for Miami, whose current duo of Kendall Sheffield and Storm Duck lacks NFL-level disruption. His veteran presence and known professionalism also offer intangible leadership benefits to a young secondary.
AtoZSports also lists Awuzie as one of five potential trade targets the Dolphins’ GM Chris Grier should call amid their secondary emergency.
The economics also support a possible deal. Awuzie is on a modest one-year, ~$1.25 million Ravens contract, making him a low-cost move for Miami that can bolster coverage without breaking the bank.
Coach Mike McDaniel and the front office have already been vocal about reinforcing the defense this offseason. The possible injection of Awuzie could be a timely response to an evolving crisis—providing both stability and experience to a secondary in urgent need of reinforcement.
With the regular season tip-off looming, Dolphins fans will be eagerly watching to see if this articulated interest turns into the trade that shores up the defense ahead of Week 1.
