Trump’s surprising response about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
Donald Trump left many speechless after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce officially announced their engagement on Tuesday, August 26. During a live-streamed cabinet meeting, reporters asked for his opinion and, against all odds, he responded in a conciliatory tone.
“Well, I wish them a lot of luck,” said Trump, 79. “I think he’s a great player and a great guy, and she’s a terrific person. I wish them the best.”

The comment surprised followers, as Trump has been one of the pop singer’s harshest critics, attacking her multiple times since she publicly supported Democratic candidates in the last presidential elections.
Taylor Swift and Donald Trump’s criticism
The contrast did not go unnoticed. Just months ago, Trump lashed out at Swift after her endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential campaign. On Truth Social, he posted in all caps: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Curiously, however, his daughter Ivanka and granddaughter Arabella attended an Eras Tour concert shortly afterward.
Trump even mocked the singer, stating: “Has anyone noticed that since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer hot?” These statements fueled the perception of a personal conflict with the artist, whom he also cited in other posts as an example of what he considers “woke culture.”
Trump and “woke” culture
Amid criticism of advertising campaigns from brands like Bud Light and Jaguar, Trump once again placed Swift at the center of the conversation, claiming she was “booed at the Super Bowl” and no longer represented an attractive symbol.
At the same time, he praised Sydney Sweeney, star of Euphoria and model for American Eagle, highlighting her ad as “the hottest” and celebrating that she is a registered Republican. In doing so, the former president drew a direct contrast between the actress and Taylor Swift.
The romantic engagement of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
Meanwhile, the entertainment world celebrated the news of Swift and Kelce’s engagement, both 35 years old. The singer shared photos of the proposal on Instagram, showcasing a unique ring designed by Kelce himself.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married ,” Swift wrote playfully. The couple also discussed their relationship on the New Heights podcast, where Swift revealed that Kelce’s romantic gesture to meet her during the Eras Tour was key to winning her heart.
