MIAMI — The Dolphins are heading into their Week 2 matchup with the New England Patriots severely undermanned due to injuries and questionable health statuses across key positions. Four starters have officially been ruled out this week: cornerback Storm Duck (ankle), right tackle Austin Jackson (toe), defensive tackle Benito Jones (oblique), and tight end Darren Waller (hip). This leaves Miami’s offense and pass defense especially vulnerable, as these players miss all practices leading up to the game.

Also on the injury report: cornerback Ethan Bonner (hamstring) and running back Jaylen Wright (knee) are listed as doubtful, while safety Ashtyn Davis (knee) joins them in questionable status. Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is expected to play despite a lingering shoulder issue. Starting guard James Daniels’ pectoral injury, suffered in Week 1, continues to sideline him, adding strain to a beleaguered offensive line.

Today also brought an update on tight end Darren Waller’s uncertain future. Acquired this offseason, Waller has yet to take the field for the Dolphins due to hip trouble. Head coach Mike McDaniel hasn’t ruled out the possibility that Waller may never play this season, indicating that health, timing, and team interest will all factor into any potential return.

On a brighter note, second-year running back Jaylen Wright made limited practice appearances — a small win for a player nursing a knee injury. While likely unavailable for Sunday’s game against the Patriots, Wright’s incremental progress offers a sliver of hope moving forward.

The Dolphins’ depth will be tested as never before. Without several starters, the coaching staff must adjust schemes, redistribute responsibilities, and rely heavily on backups. With the AFC East being as competitive as ever, winning at home—even with a depleted roster—is critical. Sunday’s game looms large: a chance to prove resilience, or risk further doubts about their playoff viability.
