Skylar Thompson is set to start as quarterback for the Miami Dolphins against the Seattle Seahawks, marking a return to the role he briefly occupied during his rookie season in 2022. Thompson was called upon to lead the team after Tua Tagovailoa suffered multiple concussions, ultimately sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

Thompson’s first stint as a starter had its challenges. While he secured a victory against the New York Jets in Week 18, he couldn’t replicate that success in the playoffs, falling to the Buffalo Bills. The loss highlighted the growing pains of a rookie quarterback, but the Dolphins believe he’s grown significantly since then.

Head coach Mike McDaniel expressed confidence in Thompson’s development, stating that the quarterback has gained valuable experience and trust from his teammates. McDaniel emphasized the countless hours Thompson has spent mastering the playbook and the noticeable increase in his confidence and command of the huddle.

This sentiment is echoed by Dolphins players, including wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, who praised Thompson’s swagger and readiness for the opportunity. Waddle’s confidence reflects the team’s belief in Thompson’s ability to lead the offense.

Thompson briefly stepped in for Tagovailoa during a Week 2 matchup against the Bills, showcasing his progress with an efficient performance. The Dolphins have also bolstered their quarterback depth by signing Tyler Huntley, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, following Tagovailoa’s placement on injured reserve.
