After going undrafted and leaving Ole Miss in 2020, Jones has consistently defied expectations. He secured a spot on the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, and his career trajectory has been upward since then.

“Being undrafted put a chip on my shoulder. I was focused on proving myself on the field,” Jones shared. “You have to seize every chance you get.”

Over the next two years, Jones transitioned between the active roster and the practice squad. In 2022, he left the Dolphins to join the Detroit Lions, where he earned a starting position. Under the guidance of former Dolphins coach Dan Campbell, Jones played a key role in the Lions reaching the NFC Championship Game.

Now back with the Dolphins on a $1.8 million contract, Jones is poised to play a crucial role during early downs. “I’ve changed as a player, now entering my fifth year,” he stated. “I’ve experienced a lot and I aim to contribute significantly to our defense.”

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and the coaching staff have praised Jones’s performance in practices, noting his consistent effort and dedication. “Benito has been outstanding. He’s reliable, hardworking, and it’s a delight to have such a steadfast player on our team,” affirmed Weaver.

This season, Jones is not only fighting for a spot on the roster but also aiming to become a starting defensive lineman. He’ll face stiff competition from veteran Teair Tart as the Dolphins look to fill the gap left by Raekwon Davis’s departure. Defensive line coach Austin Clark expressed enthusiasm about Jones’s growth and maturity, highlighting his improved understanding of the game and anticipation for his continued performance.

Jones’s journey underscores his resilience and adaptability, making him an invaluable asset to the Dolphins’ defense.
