LOS ANGELES – While it may be completely devoid of rationality, fans of Bronny James have cast 8,000 All-Star votes for the rookie guard, despite minimal NBA playing time. Once again, Bronny’s commercial appeal is overshadowing the realities of his on-court production.
While the 20-year-old guard has made a significant impact on the organization’s finances – his Lakers jersey sales reportedly reaching approximately $50 million – his NBA statistics aren’t nearly as impressive. James is averaging just 0.5 points, 0.1 rebounds, and 0.4 assists while shooting 11.1 percent from the field in limited minutes.

That said, James has found more success in the G League with the South Bay Lakers, where he’s posting averages of 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. However, his shooting efficiency remains a pressing concern, hitting just 36.6 percent from the field and 21.2 percent from three-point range.
In all honesty, James’s All-Star selection is near impossible (and nonsensical). However, speculation has turned to his potential inclusion in the Rising Stars game during All-Star weekend. Unfortunately, such a selection would be controversial, potentially requiring the removal of a more statistically deserving player.
The Rising Stars game exists to showcase the league’s top young talent. While Bronny’s presence would generate commercial buzz, it would be difficult to justify his inclusion based on his current production.
James has two years of Rising Stars eligibility remaining, offering him the time he’ll need to develop into a better all-around player before future consideration for the main All-Star event.
