The 2025 campaign is a very important one for the Miami Dolphins. And yet, before they have even taken the field in Week 1, they have already gotten hit hard by the injury bug. The position that has easily absorbed the most damage is the cornerback spot, where two of the team’s projected starters, Kader Kohou and Artie Burns, have both already suffered season-ending injuries.
As a result, the Dolphins’ coaching staff has been trying to piece things together at this position, but it’s been hard to ignore their struggles. That reportedly led the team to bring in former Los Angeles Chargers starting cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. on a free agent visit, which led to a big reaction from his Super Bowl champion father, Asante Samuel Sr.
Asante Samuel Jr.’s Rumored Visit with Dolphins Draws Big Reaction
The younger Samuel was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he immediately became one of the team’s starting cornerbacks. Over his first three seasons, Samuel gradually improved, with his best year coming in 2023, when he racked up 63 tackles, two interceptions, and 13 passes deflected over 17 games of action.
Things took a turn for Samuel in 2024, as he played in only four games for the Chargers due to a lingering neck injury. That has kept teams at bay when it comes to his free agency this offseason, as they are worried about potentially investing in Samuel, only for his injury issues to continually keep him off the field in the future.
Conflicting reports emerged about Samuel’s visit with the Dolphins. Some folks said sources claimed he was in town, while other reporters said he was nowhere to be found at the team’s facility. Regardless, the rumored visit drew a strong reaction from Asante Samuel Sr., as he sent a strong two-word message on social media after coming across the latest report regarding his son.
“Let’s gooooo,” Samuel said in his latest post on X.
