The Miami Dolphins – despite being expected by many to be a dark horse to add a quarterback early on in the 2025 NFL Draft, only attacked the position in the seventh round when they selected Quinn Ewers out of Texas.

With just former Jets #2 overall pick and Ewers backing up the notoriously injury-prone Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins would seem naturally inclined to make an addition at the position ahead of OTAs later this month.

Did the Pacers Just Pull Off the Greatest Playoff Comeback EVER?Did the Pacers Just Pull Off the Greatest Playoff Comeback EVER?

And it seems like that will be the case, as the team announced that they are signing ex University of Miami quarterback, Brett Gabbert, as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Brett Gabbert, whose (much older) brother is former first round pick and 2 x Super Bowl champion, Blaine, had a long and impressive college career in which he threw for 10,814 yards.

This ranks as the third highest in Miami’s history, behind just eventual 2013 seventh round pick, Zac Dysert – who obtained 12,013 yards; and future Hall of Famer, Ben Roethlisberger, who managed 10,829.

Unlike the other two names on the list, Gabbert played for the university for a whopping six seasons. Although the Miami product only managed more than 10 games in two of them.

It fairly standard for teams to carry four – or sometimes even five quarterbacks on their rosters as late as training camp.

And now with the new regulations that allow teams to carry an “emergency” third quarterback, it is unsurprising that the Gabbert could even have a shot at making the roster as the emergency QB, if he beats out Ewers.
