The Miami Dolphins’ playoff aspirations for 2024 are fading fast without Tua Tagovailoa. Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Seattle Seahawks has only amplified concerns about the team’s quarterback situation. Fans are desperate for a solution at quarterback, with backup options Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle failing to inspire confidence.

While names like Russell Wilson and Bryce Young have been thrown around as potential replacements, a more realistic option has emerged: Jimmy Garoppolo. Though not the most exciting name, Garoppolo’s familiarity with a similar offensive system makes him an intriguing possibility.

Garoppolo recently completed a two-game suspension and is now awaiting his fate with the Los Angeles Rams. With Matthew Stafford entrenched as the starter, the Rams must decide whether to keep Garoppolo or Stetson Bennett as the primary backup.

This situation presents a potential opportunity for the Dolphins. Garoppolo has a history in Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system, which Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel also employs. While Garoppolo’s stint with the Las Vegas Raiders last year wasn’t overly impressive, the entire Raiders team struggled.

His time in San Francisco, where he spent six seasons under Shanahan, paints a more promising picture. As a starter for the 49ers, Garoppolo went 38-17, throwing 82 touchdowns to 42 interceptions.

Garoppolo offers a compelling combination of starting experience, a track record of success, and familiarity with the Dolphins’ offensive scheme. He represents a viable option for Miami, providing a much-needed stopgap while Tagovailoa is sidelined. The Dolphins need to seriously consider all their options, and Garoppolo, despite any perceived limitations, might be their best chance to salvage the season.
