It could be any day now that Jalen Ramsey says his final goodbye to the Miami Dolphins after two years with the organization, with it seeming all but confirmed that he will be playing with a new franchise for the upcoming 2025 season.

Chiefs Rookie Praises Andy Reid’s Tough Approach: ‘He’s Keeping Toxic Culture Out of Kansas City’

This would leave a substantial hole in what is already a diminished Dolphins secondary, which has already seen the departure of starting corner, Kendall Fuller, who was cut in March.Yet, the Dolphins are – surprisingly – seemingly not going after the most obvious free agent cornerback on the market – the recently released ex Green Bay Packer, Jaire Alexander.Miami Dolphins Not Making Advances At Natural Free Agent FitBarry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have not displayed any clear interest – despite other teams having done so – in the former All-Pro cornerback in the wake of his release on Monday.“Despite a glaring need at cornerback,” Jackson wrote on Wednesday, “the Dolphins were not among the half dozen teams that reached out to former Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander after he was released by the Green Bay Packers on Monday, according to a league source.”

“Miami — which intends to trade Jalen Ramsey — also did not pursue Alexander when the Packers tried to trade him in recent months. The Dolphins did not propose a Ramsey for Alexander trade, a source said.” Right now, 2024 undrafted free agent, Storm Duck, is set to start opposite Ramsey, with either as-until-now disappointing 2023 second round draft pick, Cam Smith, or rookie Jason Marshall Jr. filling in for the likely future vacant spot. But neither seem to be ultra-feasible alternatives. Indeed, Duck himself is far from the ideal CB1 for a team that will be looking to make the playoffs for the third time in four years under head coach, Mike McDaniel.Would Jaire Alexander Be A Good Fit In Miami?

The former Packer comes with his own historical baggage, as Jackson alludes to.“Alexander was an All-Pro in 2020 and 2022 but played in just 34 of a possible 68 games since the start of the 2021 season, and just 14 of 34 the past two seasons.”“Alexander, who has 15 interceptions in seven seasons, appeared in just seven regular-season games each of the past two seasons and did not play after Nov.

17 last year — despite practicing on a semi-regular basis. He had knee surgery on what he said was a torn PCL.”“Alexander was limited to seven games in 2024 because of shoulder and knee injuries, plus a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.”Given he has only managed to play in 50% of games over the past four years, there is certainly a risk factor vis-a-vis Alexander’s health. And beyond his availability, he simply is not quite the All-Pro caliber, lockdown corner who became the the cornerstone of Green Bay’s secondary for the past half decade. But, if any team could do with taking that risk, it is the Dolphins – who are well and truly desperate for another perimeter corner addition to try and fix what could – on paper – be one of the worst CB groups in football this season.
