The Miami Dolphins announced earlier today that they had re-signed veteran long-snapper Blake Ferguson to the active roster. This move comes days after Miami released Ferguson — to allow Miami some roster flexibility — as the team looked to finalize their 53-man roster and practice squad.
Ferguson, 27, was drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Since his arrival, he has played in 67 career games for Miami, recording seven tackles and a fumble recovery on special teams.
I may have been a bit negative towards Ferguson in the past, but anyone who allows the team to release them to create additional roster flexibility — even if they get a hefty salary increase or roster bonus or whatever — is respectable, IMO.
Furthermore, he’s been the most consistent long-snapper this team has had since the GOAT, John Denney. Love him or hate him, he’s a team player, and now he’s officially back with the Dolphins!
Unfortunately, with the good news comes the bad, and today, the Dolphins announced that they have placed rookie safety Patrick McMorris on the reserve/injured list. The former sixth-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft looked impressive this preseason. finishing with nine tackles and a pass breakup. That said, the new rules allow for teams to bring players back from injured reserve throughout the season, so this could be a precautionary measure and not the last we see of the playmaking safety from California.
