The Miami Dolphins are confident in their contingency plans for kicking specialists, even if kicker Jason Sanders or punter Jake Bailey were to get injured. Head coach Mike McDaniel credits special teams coach Danny Crossman for ensuring thorough preparation, with backups identified and drilled for each kicking role.

McDaniel emphasized the versatility of Sanders and Bailey, highlighting their potential to handle each other’s responsibilities if needed. While neither has performed the other’s role in the NFL, both have some experience from their college or high school days.

McDaniel also pointed to the team’s depth at holder, with Alec Ingold as the primary option and River Cracraft and Durham Smythe capable backups. This meticulous approach to contingencies extends beyond special teams.

McDaniel acknowledged having a plan in place should both active roster quarterbacks become unavailable, though he declined to provide specifics. He likened it to the situation faced by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2022 NFC Championship Game, where running back Christian McCaffrey had to take over as quarterback.

McDaniel stressed the importance of preparing for all eventualities, emphasizing the team’s responsibility to have solutions ready in case of emergencies.
