The Miami Dolphins have a glaring need along their defensive line and will address it during the 2025 offseason.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins “really want” Calais Campbell back for another year. The Dolphins want the six-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro to return to Miami for another year.
As the Dolphins are waiting for Campbell to decide whether he’ll come back, the Dolphins are not making any significant moves along the defensive line in free agency.
Campbell would come back and play the opposite of Zach Sieler. But Campbell is still deciding what he wants to do, leaving the Dolphins waiting for his decision. The 18-year veteran is likely mulling retirement, returning to Miami, or finding a new team to play for.
In his 17 years of play, Campbell has 110.5 sacks, 917 tackles, six Pro Bowls, one first-team All-Pro, two second-team All-Pros, and a runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Campbell also was named Walker Payton Man of the Year in 2019. The Dolphins want the veteran defensive lineman to return to Miami for his on and off-field contributions.
If he did return, Campbell would be 39 years old. There’s a chance that Campbell decides to retire, but his performance in 2024 showed he can still contribute.
Campbell had five sacks, five passes defended, one forced fumble, 52 tackles, and 12 tackles for loss while playing 58 percent of the snaps for the Dolphins.A fan-favorite at every stop in his career, Campbell will indeed have free agency options. But the Dolphins “really want” him back for another year.
