Vin Diesel has teased some upcoming news on Bloodshot 2. Last month, plans for Bloodshot 2 were confirmed by DMG entertainment, the company behind Valiant Comics, the creators of the titular character. Also known as Ray Garrison, Bloodshot is a super-soldier with little memory of his past life, and originally appeared in the comics in 1992.

Despite being released in cinemas a few days before mass movie theater closures earlier this year due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, Sony’s decision to release Bloodshot on demand shortly thereafter proved more hopeful than originally thought. Not becoming a total loss, the film became somewhat of a home entertainment hit throughout the year. Following the titular hero played by Vin Diesel, Bloodshot saw marine Ray Garrison be resurrected as a part bionic super solider and exact revenge on those who killed him and his wife, and is said to be the first film in a Valiant Comics cinematic universe. Now, after a DMG’s confirmation of the next step in that potential universe, Diesel himself has shared an update on Bloodshot 2.
Via Instagram, Vin Diesel shared an image of himself in character, clothes torn and bullet-ridden, walking away from an exploding Jeep. Not much accompanied the photo, except a caption that reads, “So much great news to share… have a great week! #Bloodshot”. Check out the post below.

Despite its unlucky release timing and mediocre reviews, Bloodshot was indeed a smarter comic book film that it appeared at first glance. With Garrison’s memories foggy and disoriented, his unrelenting revenge mission becomes incredibly psychological, which is a perfect set up for a sequel. Other heroes in the Valiant Comics gallery include the likes of secret agent Ninjak, New Japan warrior Rai and interstellar super-weapon wielding X-O Manowar, the latter of whom John Cena was recently attached to play. They all possess such incredible powers and each carry a vast, colorful lineage, so creating a cinematic universe around them is a no brainer, raising the question as to how it hasn’t happened before. While Diesel’s recent news announcement is rather vague, it can’t help conjure up excitement as to what a sequel could mean for the future of his role as Bloodshot. After he went on to begin a new life at the end of the last film, the direction Bloodshot 2 could take is intriguingly open to many possibilities, whether it follows the Valiant Comics or not.

Diesel seems to be on top form in the above photo, a promising sign that the upcoming Bloodshot 2 news will be worth the wait. Though it may have a tough time competing with the MCU, the proposed Valiant Comics cinematic universe could find its footing with this sequel, and pull more from source material. Hopefully Bloodshot 2 will have a less complicated release than its predecessor.
