The Miami Dolphins are on the verge of securing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with a vital contract extension, expressing their satisfaction with his impressive performance, highlighted by his extraordinary 2023 season.

With the NFL Draft approaching in just a week, the Dolphins have yet to finalize a long-term agreement with the 25-year-old quarterback. This topic was a focal point on Wednesday’s “Up and Adams” show with Kay Adams, where Tagovailoa’s future was a hot topic of discussion.

Adams articulated her confidence in the Dolphins’ faith in Tagovailoa as their lead quarterback and emphasized the comprehensive approach the team is taking to ensure its success. “I’m convinced that the organization views Tua as their main man.

Despite some debate over his contract, in my opinion, he definitely deserves to be locked in for the long term. Playoff achievements are significant, but they shouldn’t be the sole criterion for judging a quarterback’s worth,” Adams remarked.

She further argued that Tagovailoa’s short playoff appearances, including a first-round exit in 2023 to the Kansas City Chiefs, should not overshadow his contributions and skills. “It’s unfair to disregard his accomplishments just because of playoff setbacks when factors like injuries and facing top-tier competition like Patrick Mahomes with a limited roster are in play,” Adams added.

The Dolphins wrapped up the 2023 NFL season with an 11-6 record, though their journey ended early at Arrowhead Stadium against the Chiefs.

Speculations about Tagovailoa’s potential contract extension have begun to swirl, especially considering his remarkable comeback season in 2023, leading the league with 4,624 passing yards, tossing 29 touchdowns, and earning a Pro Bowl selection. These achievements have positioned him among the league’s elite quarterbacks.

Given the recent trend of record-breaking contract extensions for top quarterbacks, with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals securing a deal worth $55 million annually and others like Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts in the $50 million range, Tagovailoa’s impending contract could see him earning a similar yearly salary. The Dolphin’s commitment to Tagovailoa as their franchise quarterback seems imminent, reflecting their belief in his capability to lead the team to future successes.
