Lamar Jackson is back on the field at Ravens training camp after missing the first three practices due to illness.
Jackson was sent home on Sunday before practice and wasn’t well enough to practice on Monday or Tuesday.
“I’m sure he’s closer to getting out there than he was,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday. “It’s just a matter of when the doctors are going to clear him, and he’s going to feel good enough.”
Jackson had previously practiced for several days before the full squad of veterans reported to camp. Quarterbacks and injured veterans joined rookies at camp on July 15.
Harbaugh said the Ravens’ practice script didn’t change with Jackson out. Veteran backup Josh Johnson ran with the first-team offense, followed by rookies Devin Leary and Emory Jones.
“We just stay right on schedule, and he’ll merge in right when he gets here,” Harbaugh said of Jackson. “That’s what you do with anybody really in that situation.”
The Ravens defense has been ruling training camp practices in the early going, with the secondary especially shining. The return of Jackson should shift the balance of power somewhat.
More importantly, the two-time MVP quarterback can now continue building his rapport with his receivers and comfort orchestrating Todd Monken’s offense in Year 2.
