Tyreek Hill Injured as Trade Rumors Heat Up — Dolphins Shut Down the Noise

Since Mike McDaniel assumed the role of head coach for the Miami Dolphins, he’s certainly made a splash. With consecutive postseason appearances under his belt, the Dolphins are poised for a potentially strong run in the 2024 season, thanks to a favorable early schedule.

Is it conceivable for Miami to clinculate the AFC East into the Super Bowl mix? It’s definitely within the realm of possibility.

Achieving this could significantly quiet McDaniel’s critics, including Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, who has yet to be convinced by McDaniel’s abilities despite his record. Perkins’ latest column, which is behind a paywall, stresses the need for McDaniel to enhance his game.

The pressure mounts as the Miami Dolphins aim to snap their prolonged drought of postseason victories. Perkins didn’t mince words, saying, “He’s got to win.

That’s the bottom line,” referring to McDaniel. Despite having a roster brimming with talent, Miami has lacked playoff success, which Perkins pointedly criticizes as a glaring misuse of resources over the past two decades.

The crux of Perkins’ argument is that while McDaniel has electrified the Dolphins’ offense, turning it into one of the most dynamic in the NFL, this has not translated into postseason victories. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s exceptional performance last season, leading the NFL in passing yards, fell short when it mattered during the Wild Card Round against the Chiefs.

Adding to the tension, the future of both McDaniel and Tagovailoa with the Dolphins hangs in the balance. There’s speculation around whether General Manager Chris Grier will offer McDaniel a significant extension, and rumors of Tagovailoa potentially holding out of training camp amplify the uncertainty.

If McDaniel’s contract situation resolves favorably, the Dolphins could be in a prime position for the ’24 season. McDaniel himself remains focused on preparing the team, despite not getting too ahead by thinking about January just yet. Meanwhile, Perkins is likely to continue his critical assessment if the Dolphins don’t meet expectations and capitalize on their playoff prospects.
