As the Miami Dolphins gear up for the 2024 NFL season with the kickoff less than two weeks away, optimism is high within the team and among its fans. Following an 11-win season and their second consecutive playoff appearance in 2023, the Dolphins are eager to snap the longest active postseason victory drought in the NFL, which has persisted since 2000. Key roster additions made earlier this year will be crucial for the Dolphins as they aim to advance deeper into the playoffs.

Here is a look at six pivotal newcomers who will don the aqua and orange this season, each playing a critical role in the Dolphins’ quest to make a significant playoff run:

  1. **WR Odell Beckham Jr.

**: A household name, Beckham has been one of the most electrifying receivers in the league for nearly a decade. Known for his breakout rookie season with the New York Giants, Beckham has amassed over 1,000 receiving yards in five of his first six NFL seasons.

Despite recent injuries that have slowed his pace, Beckham’s experience and ability could be a game changer for Miami. However, he will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, missing at least the first four games.

The Dolphins are hopeful that upon his return, Beckham can provide a spark and quickly integrate as a vital asset alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

  1. TE Jonnu Smith:

After a year with the Atlanta Falcons, where he racked up 582 receiving yards with 357 of those coming after the catch, Smith is poised to add depth to Miami’s passing offense.

His preseason performances have already indicated potential chemistry with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, making him a key target. Tagovailoa praised Smith’s versatility and ability to gain yards after receptions, highlighting his potential impact.

  1. WR Malik Washington: Selected in the sixth round, Washington proved his worth during the preseason with impressive returns and runs, securing his spot on the team.

His ability to create plays and navigate through tight spaces has caught the attention of Head Coach Mike McDaniel, who commends his balance and tackle-breaking capabilities. Washington is likely to see significant playtime early in the season due to injuries in the receiving corps.

  1. EDGE Chop Robinson: Drafted in the first round, Robinson joins Miami’s defensive lineup which already includes notable names like Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb.

With both Phillips and Chubb rehabilitating from injuries and Chubb also starting the season on the PUP list, Robinson could see substantial action early on. His development and performance could be key in bolstering the Dolphins’ pass rush.

  1. S Jordan Poyer: Replacing DeShon Elliott (who left for Pittsburgh), former All-Pro and Pro Bowler Poyer is expected to enhance Miami’s secondary, which struggled last season. Poyer’s proven track record and recognition in the NFL Top 100 over the last three seasons suggest he could significantly improve the team’s defensive backfield stability and performance.

The Dolphins are set to launch their season with these crucial new additions, combining seasoned veterans and promising rookies. With high hopes and strategic changes, the team looks poised to challenge the playoff landscape and potentially bring home a postseason victory to their devoted fans.
