**Miami Dolphins Bolster Defense, Sign Calais Campbell to a One-Year Contract**

In a continued effort to reinforce their squad with seasoned players, the Miami Dolphins, under the guidance of General Manager Chris Grier, have made a significant addition to their defense. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the team has inked a deal with six-time Pro Bowler Calais Campbell. Joining the Dolphins on a one-year contract, the veteran defensive end’s return to Miami marks a full circle in his illustrious career, bringing him back to the city where he first showcased his talents at the collegiate level.

**Calais Campbell: From College Standout to NFL Veteran**

Before becoming an NFL stalwart, Campbell dominated at the University of Miami from 2005 to 2007. The towering 6-foot-8 lineman, heralded as the tallest to ever don the Hurricanes’ uniform, entered the NFL when the Arizona Cardinals selected him in the second round of the 2008 draft. Despite a rookie season that saw limited starts, Campbell quickly cemented his place as a first-string player, earning two Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors during his tenure in Arizona.

Campbell’s journey continued when he signed a lucrative four-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017, immediately leaving his mark with an impressive season that saw him as a finalist for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year. After three productive years in Jacksonville and a stint with the Baltimore Ravens, Campbell played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023, where at 37, he posted impressive numbers reminiscent of his prime years.

**A Key Addition to Miami’s Defense**

The Dolphins’ pass rush faced significant challenges in the 2023 season, marred by injuries to key players and notable departures. With top pass rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb sidelined, and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Christian Wilkins moving on to the Las Vegas Raiders, the team desperately needed to rebuild its defensive line. Campbell’s arrival promises to fill a crucial gap, potentially assuming Wilkins’ former role and contributing both as a versatile pass rusher and a mentor to the team’s younger players, including first-round rookie Chop Robinson.

**Grier’s Strategy: Investing in Experience**

Campbell’s signing is part of a broader strategy by Chris Grier to incorporate players with extensive NFL experience into the Dolphins roster. Following recent acquisitions like eight-year veteran safety Marcus Maye and Super Bowl-winning linebacker Shaq Barrett, it’s clear that Miami is not only looking to compete but to contend for a title. With training camp on the horizon, the Dolphins may not be done seeking out veteran talent to bolster their lineup for the upcoming season.
