It’s tough to know how to take the recent comments of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. He’s entering his fourth season with the Dolphins and has already had some explosive campaigns, breaking 1,700 yards in each of his first two years in Miami.

So, Hill saying that he never understood the offense can be taken two ways. On one hand, he put up those kinds of numbers and didn’t even know what he was doing? Imagine what happens when he does! On the other hand, why is he just now deciding to dedicate himself to learning this stuff?Regardless, Hill says he’s finally understanding the X’s and O’s like Elle King (FUN FACT: King is Rob Schneider’s daughter and – like me – she doesn’t seem to like him).“I’m gonna’ be completely honest,” Hill said. “I didn’t understand the offense for the first three years of me being here.

But this year, I feel like Coach (senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik) has explained it a lot.”Maybe last year’s receiver coach Wes Welker didn’t articulate himself well enough? Hill prefers an actual chalkboard as opposed to this newfangled white board shenanigans? It sounds like first-year receivers coach Robert Prince has a mandatory Trapper Keeper policy.

“Coach RP, he’s been great,” Hill said. “From the moment he has gotten here, he has been getting on me and (Jaylen) Waddle’s nerve since he’s got here. But I think it’s great though that accountability piece is something that we needed and then also pushing us every day.

” Does Jaylen Waddle understand the offense? This may seem unprofessional and it probably is, but it’s the world we live in now.

You’ll live. I searched for information that suggests maybe fellow wide receiver Jaylen Waddle didn’t understand the offense either. Maybe it’s a systemic issue? Not only did I not find anything, but AI immediately spit this back at me.“Yes, Jaylen Waddle understands the Dolphins’ offense,” Google’s AI Gemini said. “His production in the latter part of the 2024 season, particularly when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was healthy, demonstrates his grasp of the system and ability to excel within it. While he experienced some inconsistencies earlier in the year, his work ethic and improved play during the offseason program have instilled confidence in the team about his understanding and execution.

”Well, that settles it. It seems like maybe Hill is on his own on this one, at least amongst wideouts that actually matter. Unless AI is incorrect, which would never happen.

Tyreek Hill just started taking notesHill kind of sounds like the young kid that goes off to college and drops out after three semesters because he still couldn’t decide on a major. Then, that kid goes into the real world for two years, decides on a career path and goes back to school with a renewed focus and an “I’m serious this time” attitude.

With that said, Hill said he’s taking notes now “for the first time.”“And we’re taking notes in the meeting rooms, which is great, something I’ve never done in my career,” Hill actually said out loud in front of other people. “I’m taking notes in meeting rooms. So he definitely helped us all, man. He’s been great.

”I’m not sure ‘I finally decided to try’ is something to be applauded. No one is going to throw Hill a parade because he’s now bringing a pencil with him to position meetings. But, if he really put up those numbers in his first two years in Miami without knowing the offense, he would probably surpass 2,000 yards this year if his quarterback wasn’t concussed so much.
