Bronze medalist Noah Lyles of Team United States shows his dejection after competing in the Men's 200m Final on day thirteen of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at Stade de FranceAmerican sprinter Noah Lyles has stirred up a fresh controversy with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, following the NFL star’s confident claim he could beat the Olympic sprinter in a race.

Discussing Hill, Lyles mockingly questioned: “What’s that guy? What’s the cheetah guy from football? I can’t remember his name.”

He then turned to seek help from off-camera, asking his friend Mark, “Mark, what’s the football player that thinks he’s fast’s name? Tyreek Hill”.

Lyles had previously opened himself to backlash during a notorious press conference after the 2023 World Athletics Championships. He provocatively inquired, “World champions of WHAT? ” casting doubt on why NBA players refer to themselves as world champions.

The track star’s latest remarks are a clapback to comments made by Hill during an interview on Up and Adams. Host Kay Adams relayed to Hill: “Sprinter Noah Lyles, he said that Super Bowl champs should not consider themselves world champions.”

Hill retorted: “Noah Lyles can’t say nothing after what just happened to him, you know what I’m saying, and then he wants to come out and pretend like he’s sick, I feel like that’s like horseradish,” alluding to Lyles’s Covid affliction during the 2004 Olympic 200m final.

Hill continued: “For him to do to that and say that we’re not world champions of our sports….like come on bro, speak on what you know about, you know what I’m saying, and that’s track.”

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (10) throws up a peace sign of two fingers after making a catch before running the rest of the way into the end zone for a touchdown during the Miami Dolphins versus Baltimore Ravens NFL gameAdams asked Hill if he’d like to challenge Lyles upon his return, to which Hill confidently claimed: “I would beat Noah Lyles. And when I beat him I’m gonna put on a Covid mask and let him know I mean business because I do mean business.”

Despite not running professionally, Hill had an impressive sprint history. He bagged a bronze in the 200m at the 2012 Junior World Championships and boasts personal bests of 9.98 (with wind assistance) in the 100m and 20.14 in the 200m.

In comparison, Lyles, a six-time World Champion has clocked a staggering 9.79 seconds in the 100m and a third all-time fastest 19.31 in the 200m.

Known for his brash confidence, Hill made another bold assertion during his interview with Adams he believes he’s better than Chiefs’ star QB and former teammate Patrick Mahomes.

Hill argued, “My argument is that – you have to look at it like this – Pat is great for his team,” acknowledging the steadfast achievements of the Chiefs. However, he pointed out his individual accolades saying,

“You look at me, two back-to-back 1,700 [yard seasons], Pro Bowl, All-Pro, this consistency, all that man. And I’m doing this at 5’8, about 190 [pounds]. A lot of people said I couldn’t be a receiver and here I am doing this. I’m giving all the short kings out there hope.”
