Clowney entered the divisional contest needing a mere 0.5 sacks to both reach 9.0 sacks on the season and trigger a $750,000 bonus. The veteran pass rusher’s one-year deal with the Ravens included a sack incentive that would see him receive $1 million with 7.0 sacks and an additional $750,000 if he were to log another 2.0 sacks.
Clowney reached the 9.5 sacks mark following his strip-sack on Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph during the second quarter of the game.
Michael Pierce revealed after the Ravens’ loss to the Steelers that Clowney had been eyeing the contract incentive for weeks.
“So, he’s been talking about that for like the past two weeks,” Pierce said. “This was not a, that was a very long celebration. That might have been a record for the longest celebration.”
Jadeveon Clowney’s vintage season
Clowney finished with 9.5 sacks over 17 regular season games played this year. Pierce has been pleased to see the three-time Pro Bowler continue to blossom as a difference-maker in Baltimore’s No. 1 ranked defense.
“No, we’re happy for ‘J.D,'” Pierce said. “He’s having a career year. … For him to be able to prove that he can stay healthy and play a whole season is big.”

Clowney has recorded 52.5 sacks over 126 career games played in the NFL.
