The NFL season opener is set, and the Baltimore Ravens are the lucky team that gets to head to Kansas City to face the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs. There are plenty of storylines with this match-up and one of the many in that conversation is the fact that it’ll be a chance for Marquise Brown to get revenge on his old team.
Brown was a first-round pick by Baltimore in 2019 and he went on to spend three years there before getting traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2022. After a disappointing year in 2023, Brown hit free agency and signed with the Chiefs, giving Patrick Mahomes a shiny new toy to throw to.
It’s worth noting that the quotable Brown had squared off against his old team before, as the Ravens and Cardinals played each other this past season with Baltimore winning 31-24. Brown had six catches for 33 yards and a touchdown against the team that drafted him.

It’s become a tradition in the NFL for the reigning Super Bowl champion to host the first game of the year, and the NFL absolutely made the right decision in picking the Ravens to be KC’s opponent for that game. This is a rematch of the AFC Championship Game and will also pit the last two MVPs against each other.
Brown famously demanded a trade from Baltimore after being frustrated with the archaic way Greg Roman called an offense. After Kyler Murray’s injury made it difficult for him to sustain a high level of production, Brown returned to the AFC with the goal of slipping a championship ring on his finger.
Rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins, famous for his 4.28 speed, will test his skills against one of the fastest players in the league to begin his career.
Brown facing his old team might not be high on people’s list of talking points but he’ll be motivated to prove that they made the wrong decision in trading him, so let’s hope that he doesn’t have a statement game. It’d also be pretty sweet to go into Arrowhead Stadium and ruin banner night for the Chiefs as the Lions did a year ago.
