LeBron James has had unmatched longevity in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers star is set to enter his 23rd season, which will set an NBA record, while continuing to play at an elite level.
Despite turning 40 years old midway through the 2024-25 season, James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 51.3% from the field, 37.6% from three-point range and 78.2% from the free-throw line. The four-time NBA champion finished sixth in MVP voting and earned his 21st selection to the All-NBA Team — earning second-team honors.
A former NBA All-Star suggested that the superstar may have had artificial help during his prime. When asked which version of James was the best, Jeff Teague claimed that the four-time MVP was using steroids during his tenure with the Miami Heat.
“Miami Heat Bron. He was on steroids, bro. He had to sit out (because) he was on steroids, for real. Like, legit was on steroids, bro. Allegedly. He had to sit out. Y’all don’t remember that, though? When they started testing for HGH and he had to sit out. He said his back was hurting and he sat out for like three weeks and came back skinny. I was in the league, I remember.”
This is not the first time James has been accused of using steroids, as the allegations go back more than a decade. There have been several former players and media personalities who have suggested that the Lakers’ star has had artificial help in his career.
Despite the claims, James has never failed a steroids test or been suspended. While his longevity is unprecedented, the 21-time All-Star reportedly spends $1.5 million a year on taking care of his body.
