Speaking to PEOPLE, Randi revealed that Kelce gave her the endearing nickname ‘Mama Mahomes’ and uses it every time they meet. Furthermore, she opened up about the familial atmosphere at Arrowhead Stadium and the sense of community among Patrick and his teammates.
‘It feels almost like a little family, you know. I love that,’ Randi told the publication. ‘I love meeting Chiefs players because you don’t always get to meet them all.’
Aside from connecting for 71 touchdowns in 111 games together, Mahomes and Kelce’s off-field friendship has been well documented. After winning the Super Bowl in Las Vegas earlier this year, the pair enjoyed their celebrations around Sin City.
Furthermore, Patrick and his wife Brittany were recently spotted with Kelce at his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Amsterdam.
With Kelce and Swift’s high-profile relationship continuing to generate headlines, Mahomes revealed the role he played in pairing them together.
‘I like to take some of the credit,’ Mahomes said on the Pat McAfee show. ‘I was the one who invited Travis to the first Taylor concert when the friendship bracelet [idea came up]. He was sitting in my suite, so I feel like I was the matchmaker.’
‘I had some input in there as well,’ he said about his teammate asking Swift out. ‘I was like: ‘Dude, you should go for it. Just go for it.’ And you know Travis, man. He does it. He’s a great dude. I’m glad that it’s all worked out for the best.’
Before sharing the news of Brittany’s pregnancy with their third child, Mahomes’ character was praised by head coach Andy Reid at the 2024 ESPY’s.
While accepting the Best Male Athlete trophy on his behalf, Reid expressed his admiration for Mahomes.
‘Listen, I am honored to be here, to pick up this award for Patrick,’ Reid said. ‘I’ve been around this kid for two years now, and to watch him grow as a football player, as a teammate, as a leader has been phenomenal.’
Mahomes also won the ESPY for Best NFL Player.
