The Miami Dolphins opened their season with a thrilling 20-17 comeback victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the Dolphins to victory with his seventh career come-from-behind win and his ninth game-winning drive.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was instrumental in the win, scoring his ninth Week 1 touchdown in as many seasons. Hill connected with Tagovailoa for an electrifying 80-yard touchdown reception. Jaylen Waddle, the other half of Miami’s dynamic receiving duo, put on a show with five receptions for 109 yards, all on five targets.

The Dolphins’ defense rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Safety Jevon Holland forced a crucial fumble from Jaguars running back Travis Etienne at the goal line. Kader Kohou recovered the fumble for a touchback, preventing Jacksonville from taking the lead.

Linebacker Jaelan Phillips, returning from an Achilles injury, made a triumphant return, sacking Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in his first game back.

Punter Jake Bailey played a significant role in the win, consistently pinning the Jaguars deep in their own territory. Bailey averaged 48.8 yards per punt, with a long of 57 yards and one punt downed inside the Jacksonville five-yard line.

Head coach Mike McDaniel praised his team’s resilience and the performance of new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. McDaniel highlighted the team’s ability to overcome adversity and secure a hard-fought win on the road.

The Dolphins will look to build on their season-opening victory as they prepare for a challenging matchup against their AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills, on Thursday Night Football.
